Origins of labours day
♦ This originated during the year 1886 when the police of Chicago were trying to disperse the protesting workers. A bomb was thrown at the police force by an unknown person and they started firing live ammunition at unarmed workers. The labour movement started because of this. So this day is observed as the day for workers throughout the world
♦ It also has its origins from the demand of the labour union that eight hours in a day will be work and the rest sixteen hours for recreation and rest. This was done as people were asked to work for a large number of hours with very minimal time for resting. Overtimes were radically criticised and cut to ensure that they get to live their normal lives too.
